María Andrea Piñones Valenzuela
Dr. Piñones is a Professor at the Institute of Marine and Limnological Sciences of the Universidad Austral de Chile. Researcher at The Center for Advanced Studies in Arid Zones (CEAZA). BSc. In Oceanography from the Catholic University of Valparaiso. M.Sc. and PhD in Oceanography from the Center for Coastal Physical Oceanography of the Old Dominion University. She did her postdoctoral fellow at the Yale Climate and Energy Institute (YCEI) at Yale University, United States.
She has been a project evaluator for the Chilean Antarctic Institute (INACH), the National Agency for Science and Technology Promotion of Argentina (ANPCyT) and the National Science Foundation (NSF) of the United States.
Dr. Piñones’ line of research deals with the physical and biological interactions of the marine ecosystems and how they are influenced by climate change. She is also using numerical modeling as a tool for investigating the role of ocean dynamics on transport and the connectivity of marine organisms on different spatial and temporal scales.
